He wants to be the first to know if anything goes wrong and it's not uncommon for him to work on the game at 3 AM to squash a bug. How many game companies can you point to where the emergency support line is the president's cellphone? Seriously. The playerbase is really devoted and the developers even more so. I'm sure others from our guild will chime in with their thoughts and opnions and will talk at length about the things that they dig the most. Should you decide to continue playing, the cost is $13.95/month.īetween those four sites, you should be able to find just about anything.

There is a free 24 hour trial that you can use to get a feel for the game. The game is a free download, there is no client to pay for. To see where you are at coordinate-wise, hit F3 in game. Be warned that it might take you hours depending on where you start. Or barring that, you can run to our location: -1931x4601. When it prompts for a character name, type in "Sesostris" or "olofath". I haven't done this myself so you might have to poke around a bit, but I believe the way to do it is to click on yourself and choose Navigation from the menu and look for something called Start Near a Friend. For a very short time right after you create your character, you can teleport to a friend. ** If you decide to start playing, one of the first things you'll probably want to do is use the newbie teleport feature to get to the Ars camp so we can help you out.

At it's heart, that's what the game boils down to from a mechanics standpoint. The in-game minutae, however, is resource gathering, resource processing, building, and crafting. As I mentioned, the overarching concept is one of society-building. And it's in their best interest to do so. Since we are recruiting for our Ars guild, you have plenty of people who want to mentor you. I guess it depends on your style of game play.

You can follow along in the manual provided on the site, or find a mentor. The first thing you want to do is become a citizen. How about some actual game details, crackhead? If that's your thing, this game is probably not for you. And there are plenty of verbal battles, just no hack 'n' slash. There are conflict games for those who like to compete head-to-head with other PCs, though. No hit points, no experience, no death (though the playerbase can vote to ban you). There is no physical fighting in the game. One other thing of note, there is no combat in this game. In order to get Oracles in each Discipline (citizens who have passed all 7 tests in that Discipline), it takes all of Egypt working together. The game is really about society building, though. However, in this game, it's perfectly possible to never pass a test and still be a powerful citizen. That means thousands are not going to make it as far as everyone else. In theory, it takes 7 citizens at most, to "win" the game. With 49 total tests, no single person will be able to pass them all. However, that doesn't mean everyone is working on passing tests. The obvious goal of the game is to pass tests in the disciplines. Nearly the entire game is player-driven, with a smattering of developer lead events. Sounds fruity, what's all that mean, game-wise?Įvery character model in the game is another person. The citizens of Egypt must work together to help each other pass all the tests in order to prove to the Stranger that Pharaoh is a good leader and not a tyrant in disguise. The Stranger says that he will work with Egypt's Universities and create 7 tests within each Discipline. Pharaoh and his people are working on perfecting the Seven Disciplines of Man. One day a Stranger comes along and challenges Pharaoh's belief. The story is that Pharaoh believes that Egypt is a perfect society with wonderful citizens. You play the role of a citizen of ancient Egypt. I suppose the first thing to address is, "What is A Tale in the Desert?"Ī Tale in the Desert is a small, independent MMORPG. However, the guild is dwindling and we thought we'd have an Ars recruitment drive. Some of us Arsians have been playing A Tale in the Desert for a few months now.
